The 469's are very good little guns... (reply)

If one can get acclimated to the safety. They were popular off duty guns in the early 90s and I've shot a bunch of them. All were trouble-free and plenty accurate. Real decent little 12 shooter.

My full-size 3rd generation is a well made gun (reply)

Has been basically flawless, although I hardly ever shoot it any longer.

For a woman, the 3rd Gen Lady Smith or 3913 is a much better choice, with the slimmer single stack grip frame and improved design. In style and feel they remind me of a Commander, in an 80s crunchenticker way.

I question the utility of the slide mounted safety. It seems double redundant in function, 'backward' or not.

With the right training, the double action can be mastered to good effect.

Personally, I like the little .45s of that era, but it sounds like she wants a 9mm.

I bought the first one I saw way back in the olden days (reply)

I had one years ago. Forget the trade but I ended
Up with it and a SIG P226. I was just learning to shoot that 226 when I foun something else I wanted and traded it off. Didn't shoot the Smith a ton but it was a good gun. Grip was a bit blocky as stated but I've got of hands so it wasn't a problem.

when they first hit the market (early 80's) It's never even hickuped with good ammo. My only gripe is that the grip feels a little like a 2x4. They fixed that later on.
