Lunch time memories (reply)

I was in highschool in the US the 1979-1980 school year. It didn't take me long to figure out that if I hit the hallway walking fast I'd be near the front of the lunch line. Scarf the day's offering and hit the hallway walking fast would get me into the library where I'd have access to gun and other outdoor magazines until the next class started. The curse of speed eating has haunted me to this day, but that's another issue.

I recall reading a story, can't remember by whom or in what gun rag, methinks it was Guns and Ammo, but might have been another, anyhoo, they gave the stainless Redhawk a thorough going over, testing, evaluating, even leaving it soaking in water to check the corrosion resistance. Details elude me after all these years, but the result was a desire to have one of them there sixguns someday. 45 years later "someday" still hasn't happened. But I've always been a fan of the idea.

My neighbor had two Redhawks .. short one and a long one .. (reply)

the 7 1/2" one had a scope on it. We used them when I was testing JD Jones' 320 gr. 44 Magnum bullet. We pushed it over 1500 fps in the 7 1/2" though I don't recommend going that high. JD had sent me one of the first molds and we worked it, made some suggestions and the second model was great.

We shot targets out to near 200 yards. I watched my neighbor shoot a 5 shot group at 150 yards that was a little over 4" with the full house load. They are accurate guns!

The 71/2" gun was more comfortable with the heavy loads due to the weight with the scope.

Running the 320 gr. bullets at about 1300 fps was a LOT more comfortable and was super accurate.

Redhawk

Over the years I have acquired a few .44 mag revolvers. Hawes Western marshal that now wears a 12" octagon barrel, SS 6 1/2" Vaquero, Blue 4 5/8" Vaquero, FA 4 1/2" field grade. GShow last weekend I saw a SS Redhawk 5 1/2" marked six twenty-five. Looked clean and very lightly used, offered six cash and the deal was made. Vendor says BTW it comes with this and handed me a plastic ammo can with a box of Hornady JHP two missing, a speed loader, and two 50 round MTM boxes of cast ammo. Ser# is from late 1982. Have looked at 629's, Colts, taurus, and RedHawks for a loooong time. Glad I waited
