I have the complete .31 to walker set of red plastics from dustin winegar and a package of cheech&chong approved 3x's but have yet to try them. I normally load the cylinder off of the gun so there is no advantage to cartridges....

Very enjoyable and lots of historical associations. Recently embarked on making paper cartridges also; having no experience in this area it also was a lot of fun. Used a Kerr mold obtained from Eras Gone.

The Big and The Little (reply)

Now there's a pair to draw to. Never had the pleasure of playing with either of those models. Current cap and ball battery is an 1860 copy by Pietta and a Ruger Old Army that's been "tuned" at some point. Both give a lot of enjoyment, but can't help but look at the gaps in the collection and ruminate on "what's missing". Honestly, what's missing is the opportunity to get them out and play! Thanks for sharing!

Horse pistol(s)..... (reply)

That's how I loaded my first Ruger Old Army back in the day. I THINK it was 30 grains by volume of Pyrodex P with two .457" balls, one on top of the other, and Wonderlube or whatever it was over the front of the cylinder. When I eventually unloaded it, the accuracy was very decent. Later my favorite load was actually a Lee mold conical over a snort of Especial de Caça. Sure wish I'd had a chronograph back then to know what kind of velocity it gave me. That ROA recoiled like a Blackhawk 44 Magnum with that load.

Horse pistol(s)..... (reply)

I once put twelve shots on a pizza box at twenty paces with just six pulls of the trigger. Got the idea when loading a somewhat reduced load with the cylinder off of the gun to ensure full compression. It was obvious there was ample room in that first chamber for yet another ball so I loaded it completely that way (double).
