Jan & I drove to Taos to see the history there: Kit Carson's restored home. He was a truly heroic man. The Indians of the Southwest had no better friend or more implacable foe. The modern day Navaho's may revile Carson, but they would still be at Fort Sumpter a small & forgotten people, if not for Carson's efforts to get them back to the four corner's region.
I found a new copy of Firearms, traps & Tools of the Mountain Men. A very thorough book on that era.The Museum at his old house has a bookstore, well stocked with history. Read Blood & Thunder: a great history of the founding of NM and Carson's life
