The journey is more satisfying than the destination for me. Thirty some years ago I could have just bought a .375 Winchester or 38-55 lever gun, but instead I picked up a $25 Remington .375 H&H ebay take-off barrel and a $100 pawn shop Marlin 30-30. Couple of weeks worth of lunch hour machining and a Remlin was born with perfectly indexed Remington barrel and factory sights on a Marlin action.

Howdah

For some unknown reason, hopefully not a premonition of things to come. I cannot get the idea of a Howdah pistol out of my mind lately. Either a 16 gauge greener action double with .50 caliber barrel liners installed and chambered in 50-70 Gov. Or a 12 bore with permanently installed rifled choke tubes. I know it would be completely impractical and good at best for 30 yards max. I'm thinking I could put one together on a five Franklin budget. Maybe I am lately recalling that recurring childhood nightmare of being chased barefoot down a gravel road by an 18 wheeler. The practical side of me says my 5" 454 with 330 gr. CPB's loaded hot is already a Howdah pistol times 2 1/2.
