My wife had a 1999 4WD GC and it was an awesome vehicle. My daughter has a much newer GC, maybe 6 years old, and it is great. It drives very well and is comfortable, unfortunately she got the 2WD version. I'm considering buying a 4WD version myself, if I don't buy a Wrangler.

I think the current Explorer is a good vehicle but if you want 4WD it isn't in the same league as the GC. The Explorer AWD would probably be good for snow but not real 4WD roads.

I don't pay any attention to Toyota, for my own reasons.

I got a 2WD Limited edition and it drives wonderfully. Very comfortable and solid on the interstate, seems safe and solid. I didn’t compare it with the others you listed and I wish it got better fuel mileage but I’m very happy with it.
