An old friend came to the house last night

Last gun show, I found a huge bottle of Hoppes #9 at a table for $5. For many years, Hoppes was all I used to clean guns. Then, I wound up searching for other stuff, used what I got a good deal on, etc. Lately, I've been using a CLP and Ballistol, with good results.

Anywho, I was working last night on a FEG Hi Power clone I got on the cheap from a local shop because the hammer followed the slide. Someone had slathered that poor gun in some heavy axle grease that then hardened inside and out, which made all the moving parts all but lock up. Even pushing the mag release almost took a clamp (I'm not exaggerating). I got the gun apart, spied the Hoppes on the shelf, and decided to use it to clean the gun.

Long story short, the gun is clean, the culprit of the hammer follow has been corrected (someone had bent the sear spring to do a "trigger job." Sear spring is now back where it should be), and I came into my office this morning to the sweet smell of Hoppes #9. My house used to smell like this all the time back in the day.

It is good to have it back.
