Yep. That's why... (reply)

I never really minded the recoil of my S Redhawk in 454, even will full power loads, as long as I didn't shoot more than 30 or so at a sitting. That pistol was so accurate I didn't need to shoot more than that to maintain proficiency. I have shot the Ruger in 480, but never the Linebaugh. If it weren't for the expense of dies and such, i would really consider the 475, but as it stands I am leaning towards the 454, with one hole in the end of the barrel.

I'd rather go with a larger caliber than try to push a smaller one so high. Snappy recoil or loud, obnoxious noise - not much to choose from there.

Because. (reply)

Because it has one of the nastiest recoil impulses of the big bore pistols, perhaps? I know that Caz's 475 with hot (literally) loads in it was not as nearly unpleasant to shoot as JimT's 454 with Corbon 360's. Perhaps folks figure some extra holes up front will tame it enough to make it more shootable.

If it had the hardwood grips I think I would jump on that. There are two I am looking at on gunbroker, one is more than I would like to pay, but it is a Premier and it is new in box with the warranty.

What configuration are you looking for? (reply)

I am looking for a M83 in 454, thought about the 475, but I don't really want the added expense of dies and moulds and brass. I think I would prefer a Premier Grade, but Field Grade with the hardwood grips would be just as good. I do want adjustable sights and either a 7 1/2 or 6" barrel. I may break out the credit card for this one, even as much as that bothers me. I just feel that now is the time.

Freedom Arms

I am saving my pennies trying to grab a Model 83 in 454. Wondering where to look beside gunbroker and auction arms. I have decided I am going to simplify my life, and get back to doing what I like best, hunting and shooting, and I am very fond of big bore handguns, and I have plenty of 45 Caliber stuff already. Thanks in advance.
