Yes it is (reply)

Ruger has hit an out of the park home run with the American Rifle.
I love the fact that ruger listened to a small gun shop and ran a minimum 1000 gun production run for them.
Try calling Randy's Hunting Center in Bad Axe, MI, they are so busy that the phone normally takes you to a detailed voice message about the 450 American, and they are all sold out.
I believe Randy's has sold over 2000 of them so far.

I'm a lover of fine firearms, but these are a marvel of modern manufacturing designed from the ground up to take advantage of modern manufacturing technology.

They have sold so well, that other models in the ruger lineup have been discontinued or relegated to low production status.

Boyd's gunstocks... (reply)

One of these would fix the Flexi Flyer stock issue.
But adding $150 to the cost of an American brings you to another tax bracket, if you know what I mean.

http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/ProductDetail/3zb144d04112_classic-ruger-american-centerf...

I plan on adding a couple of carbon arrow shafts full length under the barrel channel, and filling the voids with expanding foam.
As it is, my two, no three American rifles shoot fine with the factory stocks. But I'm not using a bipod or a tight sling with them either.

Neat indeed. (reply)

I have always been somewhat intrigued by the cartridge. What's not to like with large diameter, semi-heavy slugs at ~2100 or so?

As to the American rifles, there are two here at Casa Hoot. One is the compact version in .308 which Miss Melodie has claimed and the other a standard length in 7-08. Both are very nicely accurate for certain. There are only two 'shortcomings'. First, and not terribly fair, is that they were made to meet a particular price point. As such, they are not a fine example of the stockmakers art. The forearm is able to move without much effort. If a fella wrapped a sling around his arm, it could pull enough to change impact. Like I said, not fair given the great bedding system and very good trigger as offsetting features but it's there.

The second complaint is the rotary magazine. They can be reluctant to advance the following rounds. Some of the mags we have are a bit balky and some are not. There are YouTube videos out there and perhaps a fix but I haven't got that particular 'round tuit.

All in all, they are very good guns for the money and I wouldn't hesitate picking up another or recommending one.

Very neat caliber... (reply)

I'd like to have a 450 Bushmaster upper for my AR but I'm not sure I could buy an upper cheaper than that Ruger American rifle. The latter seems to have a really reputation for accuracy also.

New caliber in Ruger American rifle

Ruger is cataloging the American rifle, both Standard and Ranch in 450 Bushmaster.
This is great news for those of us who hunt in shotgun or restricted firearms zones for deer.
Michigan followed Indiana's rules changes a few years ago, and now allow certain rifle calibers to be used in the firearms deer season in the Southern half of the Lower Peninsula. This fits in the required; 35 cal. minimum, straight wall, less than 1.8" case length.
I hunt in that zone, and though rifled shotguns with sabot slugs work, they are not my first choice.

This Ranch Rifle, with a suppressor would be lighter than my slug gun.

http://ruger.com/products/americanRifleRanch/specSheets/16950.html

250gr. .452" running 2150fps.
I'm in!
