Sharp Knob area up in what we call the "Roughs of Bergoo" s where the plane is located. Its about 3 tenths of a mile or so off the main mountain top road (FR-24) near the beginning of the Props Run Trail. Debris scattered for a hundred yards. It could be a PT-19. I cannot tell if it had an inline water cooled engine (PT-19) or a Radial (PT-23). Were going to have to meet sometime Hobie.

was stripped a little at a time by hunters over the years. It is in a remote area that is about 10 miles in any direction from a house now in 2016. I'll wager that in the 1940's it would have been much farther to find a farmer or cabin in this area. THE engine was hauled out by mules on a sled. There are parts and pieces everywhere. A young guy was there last week and found a small tank of some sort. He took the spec plate off of it and it said it was manufactured in 1942 and it was marked 4 gallons. Everyone was amazed at the small fuel capacity. I told them that it probably had a dry sump engine and that was the oil tank.

Here was my camp set up just before the rain started at 4,229 ft elevation in the Potomac Highlands in Pocahontas county WV last Saturday. The next morning we awoke to snow. The last picture below is a Fairchild PT-23 trainer that crashed near where the tent is back in the 40's.

You ever struggle with what rifle to hunt with? I did this year. So I grabbed a 98k I've had for years. Searched in my junk for dies, brass and bullets. I remember this rifle shooting 1inch groups at 50 yards with IMR 4064 and the 150 grain Hornady 8mm bullet. I was out of 4064 so I used Varget. Didn't have time to chronograph but did test fire at deer camp.

Quickest bang/flop I've ever seen. Around 40 yards an 8mm 150 grain Hornady Spire point over 50 grains of Varget. A raking shot from a front angle. Fog was thick enough to cut it with a knife. This time of year the does are smarter than the bucks.
