I didn't find it necessary to do so on a Springfield 1911 .38 Super, and the recommended spring rates for both calibers are often the same.

HOWEVER!

Guns are individuals unto themselves and what works with some doesn't work for others. In the end we just have to try and see. Sometimes you're lucky!

the weight of the spring. I would guess that the 9mm spring would be a little light and allow unnecessary force on the frame. I have not tested this. I did find a light 38s load that I was happy with in both my 1911 and S&W revolver. I was able to use the original 9mm spring with that load.

If I stuck to "needs" I'd be carrying my no-finish, police trade-in S&W Model 15 .38 Combat Masterpiece that I paid $125 for about a quarter century ago, and I would have lots more money in the bank.

Unfortunately the "wants" are sometimes undeniable!

That would certainly be a great idea for them. The titanium ramp insert solves the only problem I have ever had with an alloy-frame Commander.

Do you think Ruger will put one out in the 1911 series? That new 9mm lightweight would be a sweet platform.
