The thing I like most about the .38 Super (aside from the major cool factor) is that it is obviously a step up from the 9mm, but still much easier and faster to hit with than a .45 since I am now an official OLD FART with hands and wrists that are a lot less lumberjacky than they used to be. Also, the Super shoots flatter at extended ranges than a .45 acp. When I'm working on my tractor I can't carry a rifle, and it's a lot more fun to strafe a coyote on yon hillside when you have at least a reasonable chance of hitting him.

Still trying to work out the picture thing. Sorry.

Gotta love it when someone gets to scratch an itch that's been after them for so long.

I must admit, the 38 Super kind'a, sort'a calls out to me now and then. I truly never gave it much attention until the past 5-6 years. For a short while back in the 80's, I know is was THE main gun of all of the speed shooters out there. I didn't have the money to get into that game and couldn't see owning one at the time. As a self defense gun, it is indeed a temptress.

Enjoy!

Congratulations! I've been pining for a 38 Super or 9mm for a while, but the good ol' Llama will continue doing duty as the PPPPP for the foreseeable future. Transferable pistols are few and far between down here, and typically higher than a cat's back. What are you working on? It sounds like it runs well as it is.

I got it. After all these years.

A 1971 Colt LW Commander .38 Super. I love Commanders, and I've wanted a .38 Super to go with my 9mm ever since I've had it. Found one at a local auction today, and it was nice - bone stock, hadn't been messed with, been carried some but not shot a lot. I bid on it, and me and another guy (who runs a little gun shop here in town) wound up banging heads for it. I had set $700 as the highest I could go, and I got it for $675. Last one I saw for sale was $1,150, so that was still a pretty good deal.

It was a gamble, because the older .38 Supers have chambers cut to headspace on the cartridge rim and some of them don't shoot very well. This one does. I put 3 magazines of Aguila hardball through it between showers after I got home, and had no trouble making metal confetti out of Pepsi cans. I need to work with it some more, but I think It's gonna be fine.
