it in my marlin model 62 in 256, and also in my 25/20 rifles and revolver and sometimes in the 25/35s.. tough bullet, holds together, but the front end expands well.

One of our guys, George Robins, bought a 1894 Marlin 25-20, re-chambered it to 256 and it worked perfectly, shot beautifully out to well past 200 yards, and was delightful to behold. It functioed perfectly and he told me the ONLY thing he did to the carbine was the re-chambering.

I just feel the cartridge needs a scope and I don't want to muck with the barrel and do want a rifle...

A converted Marlin 1894 would be cool. Need to look for another pre-safety .357.

Brownells does NOT show those bullets in stock. Nobody (reply)

Brownell's has the 75 grain Speer flat points in stock right now. No telling when Hornady will put the 60 grain bullet back into production, and it doesn't look like the Remington 86 grain bullet will ever come back again.
If Marlin would just get production of the 1894 CSS in 357 going again I would buy one to convert to 256 Win Mag. Jamison is making properly headstamped brass you an get at Graf's, and Redding still makes the form die set to convert 357 Magnum brass.

Well worth it. Great little shorter range varmint cartridge. I have the Contender barrel and a Marlin Model 57 and I used to have a Martini Cadet in .256. A delightful cartridge to load and shoot if you are careful. 75 grain hollowpoints seem to be the best bullet since the 60 grain HPs that were originally loaded as factory are no longer available. I don't like the 60 grain flat points much.
