I have only done it indoors but as long as you aren't in bright sun it should work fine. Every bit as bright as a "shooting" laser and about as long as clicking a flashlight off and on.

By works pretty well, do you mean it is easy to see the laser flash on targets indoors? I was not planning to buy the etronic targets.
