I have had 2 .38-55s. I have loaded Winchester (old and (reply)

new), CIL, Starline, re-formed 30-30, and .375 Win brass for the .38-55. I have had zero problems with the brass. What has caused problems are the combinations of certain bullets with certain case lengths.

I have loaded exactly 1 (one) .38-55 cartridge case. (reply)

It was an experiment trying to simulate a 9.3x57R. I don't recall having any issues but then maybe necking them down to .366" helps a bit? Also haven't had any issues (yet) with .25-20's but both .32-20 and .44-40 taught me a lot about 'playing nice' with thin necks.

I do have an unremembered quantity and make of the 'short' .38-55 brass (2.080" IIRC) that is unsuitable to my needs. If you have interest, I can figure out what is there and what it's worth. Just holler. It'll save me having to buy a rifle just because there is brass....

This new Lyman Sharps in 38-55 is cool BUT...

this brass is touchy! I know...it's my first 38-55 and I've heard the stories. Had a few casualties already at the press. Ack.

I know it's not as bad as 25-20 and at least it's straight-wall.

What brass do you not like working with?
