a big knife will do what a little knife will do (reply)

but a little knife will not do what a big knife will do.
The legal limit here is a 5.5" blade, so always carry blades in the 3.5" to 4" range.

I read a lot from knife enthusiasts that like their 2" blades and so forth, even for hard work chores. I figure my fingernails will do almost as well as that. I've tried small blades and they won't do the jobs I need to do so I've moved up to larger blades.

I introduced my female biz partner to guns 2 years ago... (reply)

well, she had shot with her brothers some but not much. Now she has her own O/U sporting clays gun, 2 carry pistols and her own recurve. She keeps asking "When are we going to shoot a pig?" Her fav handgun is my Kimber bobtail 1911. She named it Swanky for some reason. Not sure why ladies like to name guns but I'm just glad she enjoys them.

For what it's worth, women make excellent gun students in my experience. They don't act cocky like guys and they take instruction well. She can outshoot a lot of guys who think they can shoot. Now, that's fun to watch.

Fabulous! (reply)

It is fabulous. I love it.

I taught 2 grown females to shoot last fall.

One was accompanied by her Daddy and a 30-06, the other had her hubby and used my handguns.

The rifle gal gets married in June and wants to learn pistols ASAP. The married gal now shoots her new revolver regularly and wants to move up to a larger caliber.

It gives one a warm feeling to introduce new people to shooting... especially those who have never touched off a round.

I have yet taken one hunting... I will leave that to their hubbies who hunt on my remote back acres (woods).

Persevere... we need them desperately.

alaskan girls and bears

some may remember these. our employee and dept superviser, Stan, has 4 beautiful , keen, little daughters. he teaches them right and a rite of passage is hunting- as soon as they handle their choice of weapon well and safely, snd can be quiet and focus on the task.
first was this, with marlin 94 in 44 mag:

next one used her favorite, M4 style carbine in 458 beowulf

then a friends teen age daughter brought her winchester 94 30/30 but her black bear was spooked away by mr grizlly- but one shot thru the heart settled him down

next daughter practiced faithfully until she was very deadly --- with her crossbow

he sent me this picture this morning

...............

the forth daughter is a 2nd grader and the fiiercest and most competetive of the group----
will be fun to see her choice , maybe a spear or a pocket knife ,,,!

alaskan girls are tough ---- their boyfriends need to review these pictures , before they wind up as a head and shoulders mount thrmselves
