He made me a couple of slip joint folders many years ago. I very much liked the quality, fit, and precision. I'm kind of surprised he is still making knives, he must be fairly old by now.

Both of those went down the road years ago. I only have about a dozen custom knives left out of what used to be quite a large collection.

I've got a variety of knives but a working style Wayne Clay folder is on the list. I've heard a good bit about his work but was curious to see if any here had experience with his knives. As to my needs, ATS 34 is plenty good.

ATS-34 used to be the "go to" steel for custom knives, now 154CM is about the same thing and custom knives have become more esoteric.

I don't know that I have heard of Wayne Clay but you should be able to do some google searching and find information. These days custom folding knives are usually fairly expensive, and can be really, really expensive. Spyderco and Benchmade both make very good folding knives for reasonable prices. Before spending a lot on a folding knife I would do a lot of research.

I've read of them but never handled one. Anyone have experience with them? I was reading about his folders in ATS 34.

I've long been a fan of small to medium, thin blade folders for skinning and caping. Took a few moose apart with filet knives too. Those are awesome for sliding between joints.
