Hey Brian, how's your Mom and Pop doing... (reply)

They are doing great, thank you, will pass along your greeting. Hopefully you and yours are doing very well all around and Miss Elizabeth is enjoying the great southwest.

The deer population is about the same as the couple hunting seasons, which is a blessing considering we've had three rough winters in a row. The spring of 2013 saw over a hundred dead deer in the yard here.

I don't envy you the chiggers at all, the few ticks we get up here is bad enough. When working in the field I get razzed all the time for wearing protective clothing, but have much fewer problems than most of my colleagues, so don't mind their teasing a bit.

Thanks, I've heard of folks using sulphur... (reply)

I'm usually prepared and dressed accordingly, but this was a kind of the spur of the moment thing.

They use to not bothering me so much, but ever since my radiation treatments four or five years ago, well, it's like my whole hide is on fire. I use to get stung by all kinds of bees and what not on my job, not much problem. Now I have to carry an epipen.
I guess getting "fried" compromised my immune system or something. All I know is, I hate the damn things.

They still play, usually in early September... (reply)

They have tournaments at the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum, just down the road from me in Vonore, TN. They reenact the assault on Fort Loudon also. Guess what? The Cherokee still wipe 'em out!

When I lived in Mississippi, The Choctaw used to hold the World Championship Stickball Tournament in Philadelphia, MS. Anybody who's never seen it, if you think football or hockey is rough, you need to check out stickball, it can be pretty brutal. Roughest game I've ever witnessed.

Hey Brian, how's your Mom and Pop doing... (reply)

If all else fails dust yourself with sulfur dust. Around the pants cuffs, shirt cuffs, and around your neck. Some folks put it around their waist. It smells like sulfur and isn't the most pleasant smell in the world, but you will think it is worth it when you are chigger free. I keep an empty vanilla extract bottle filled with alcohol with three or four aspirin dissolved in it for doctoring chigger bites. Shake well, apply with a Q-tip.

You can find lots of her stuff, just do a search. Ignore the "Attorney" part, she saw the light about four years ago and retired from the practice.

Thanks for the link below also. If you ever take a notion to come this way, just let me know!

Yea, I guess I've been "lucky in love." However, you gotta remember: For every action, there's an equal an opposite reaction! kinda like a sine curve. 'nuff said about that.

I played with a few spears as a kid. Getting the balance just right can be a bit tricky and it can take a lot of practice to throw one hard enough to do any good and so it hits point forward. Have very little experience with an atlatl, they only increased the difficulty level for me.
