More a matter of finding the "right" one than anything. I do have a 2-3/4" Ruger Speed Six in .38 Special (and it's brother in 9mm) so I kinda already have one. But, I still love the Smith's!

S&W 10-5 happiness (reply)

I too love them. They just seem to leave a "j" frame in the dust (at least to me).

I believe the 64 is just a 10 in disguise.

Round butt... square butt... who cares?

Just a pretty little piece that everyone needs.

S&W 10-5 happiness

I have had this S&W 10-5 square butt for quite a few years (It has a good story that goes with it...), but I never really shot it as much as I would like because it always shot high and to the left with all the grips I tried, factory grips, factory grips with a filler, and various boot type grips. All shot high and to the left. It just isn't all that fun when I can't hit what I'm aiming at, so the gun spent most of its' time hidden away as a house gun. Well the other day when I was digging through my grip box, I ran across a pair of Uncle Mikes grips for a square butt K frame. I really like these grips that Craig Spegel designed for Uncle Mikes; they've always felt good to me. So the wheels started spinning with me wondering what the effect would be of switching out the grips on this Model 10 to something a bit larger and more secure.......

I finally got to the range yesterday to give it a try. The target is 5 rounds off hand single action at 25 yards, and the low shot was a called flyer that I pulled low. I probably pulled the far right shot a bit too, but with the short sight radius, I'm not complaining... I fired 2 different hand loads with 158 grain lead bullets, with this group typical for both loads. A gun that was way off is now pretty close to dead on with these grips. I was using a 6 o'clock hold, so it is now about 3" high and maybe an inch to the right..... I like a gun to shoot a little high, so that's fine with me. Sure the grips add an extra 1/2" to the butt of the gun, but now this thing usable and fun to practice with, and accurate to boot...... I'm a happy camper!!!!!
