sight alignment is most important (reply)

If you can see the sights clearly, you can hit the fuzzy target. If you see the target but not the sights you will have a much harder time hitting the target.

I foumd an optometrist and trap shooter... (reply)

Who specializes in prescription shooting glasses and will tweak for specific distance to the front sight...handgun, rifle, shotgun. Excellent results. I went to a local regional trap meet and stumbled into his rv sales booth.

FIND AN EYE DOCTOR WHO WILL ALLOW YOU (reply)

TO BRING GUNS INTO THE OFFICE. HE CAN PUT A THING ON YOUR HEAD TO ALLOW HIM TO TRY VARIOUS LENSES TO FIND THE BEST OPTION FOR YOU. I SIGHT OUT THE WINDOW OF MY DOCTOR'S OFFICE AND HE CHANGES LENSES TO GIVE ME THE BEST SHOOTING GLASSES. I CAN GET BY WITHOUT THEM BUT I WANT GLASSES FOR SAFETY WHEN SHOOTING AND HE CAN SHARPEN UP THE IMAGE A LITTLE. I WAS THE FIRST IN HIS OFFICE MORE THAN 20 YEARS AGO; NOW HE ADVERTIZES FOR SHOOTERS.

Glasses (reply)

I use 1.5+ single power glasses for reading but for shooting I use 2.0+ to see the sights reasonably well; target is fuzzy but sights OK.

I keep reading glasses with me most of the time (reply)

I would guess that most shooters 50 and over could use some form of plus correction.
+1.50 is about what I use to actually read with, more than what I need for seeing sights. The lowest power I've seen in retail stores is +1.25, but I've seen online stores that sell weaker models. Not everybody needs a +1.50, some people might benefit from just +0.50.

After my cataract surgery 5 years ago I have 20/15 in the (reply)

right eye and about 20/20 in the left, but I still need readers. For shooting and walking around at the ranch I use bifocal readers from these guys. I spent from 8 yoa to 56 yoa wearing glasses and I still like having full frame glasses in front of my eyes in the woods or while shooting. I use clear top and either 1.25 or 1.50 bottoms on various styles. I have wrap around shooting glasses and also normal looking frames for other occasions. I still use the small half frame readers on most days in town.

Glasses

I discovered that I can see handgun sights better if I wear my reading glasses or 1.5X cheaters. Anybody else have this issue too? Is there a solution other than wearing your readers around your neck 24/7?
