I think you should vaporize as much of the base of the bullet as possible before it exits the barrel. That way, you get a stabilizing effect when the supersonic lead vapor undergoes Joule-Thompson expansive cooling which helps the bullet settle down by the "spooky interaction at a distance" seen in QM. If you can vaporize about 5-10 grains off the base then accuracy starts to increase; I have gotten one hole groups if the bullets are down from 250 g to 240 g by the time they get to the target all the way out past the chronograph.

Sounds good. I noticed over at sixshooter a gentleman loading 429421 with 2400 in the 14 to 14.5 grain range with good results. Ive been using 15.5 to 16 grains in the flat top. Maybe a little warm for that bullet.

At risk of being ejected as well, I don't have a 44 special...........However that being said, I do use the 429421 in the 44 mag over 18.0 of 2400 as my "standard" load.

I have loaded the same bullet for my best friend and his 44 spl, but the charge was 14.0 of 2400 and a velocity of 1095 from his 5 1/2" barreled custom Reeder old model. That particular gun shot them well.

I also tend to shoot fat bullets. Generally .001 to .002 over cylinder throat dimension. Providing they chamber freely and the case has enough room to expand and release the bullet. I cast them about 12-15 for hardness brinnell.

Mark, I understand. This bullet has been a little fussy for me. Ive tried different alloys, powders, etc. No luck so far but plan to keep trying now that I have more loads, thanks to the kind posters on this board.

I like 6.0 of WW231 in my Flattop but the truth of the matter is the 429244 (even with out the GC) shoots better.
Don't kick me off this site for finding something better than a Keith design. Please?

I like 6.5 grs HS5 and 7.0 grs Herco. Not hot loads, but very accurate in my 44spls. My 429421 is my 1st mold and its an Ideal mold.

Shooting this bullet out of a Ruger flat top .44 special and a Smith 624. Haven't hit on a great recipe yet. What powder seems to work best for those of you who shoot this bullet.
