This one looked to be in pretty good shape, and did have an aperture sight (Redfield, I think). I guess I should have bid higher, but I got enough oddball mouths to feed as it is.

that started life as a 32-40 and was later rechambered to 32 Special. His came with an old aperture sight (can't recall which one now) and he swears by it. I'll bet he is still killing deer with it, if he's able.

This is a new one on me (reply)

I have one from 1948 also. Came to me as a basket case. I've cleaned all the grease and grime off all the parts, replaces the firing pin (end broken off) and the extractor(broken, but haven't gotten assembled yet. The butt plate was broken along with the toe of the stock. The butt plates from then were bakelite, very fragile(pieces broke out when I backed out the butt plate screws)and so far,not replaceable.

This is a new one on me

Went to a gun auction today and saw something I had not heard of before: A Marlin 336 chambered in .32 Special. Said to have been made in 1948. I never knew anything other than the Winchester 94 was made in that caliber. Neat old rifle - I bid on it, but it went way beyond what I thought I should spend.

There were approximately 150 guns at auction. Some of the good stuff went for very low prices and some of the junk went stupidly high. I wound up not buying a single thing, but it was an interesting day nevertheless.
