I suppose that colt had shown a picture of the prototype and it was in an ad that i saw..

i distinctly remember the semiautos including the short one with the saddle ring, but being more interested in the gun with the lever, which as i recall, looked otherwise identical.

wish i had seen this auction, i might have grabbed it.

book of gun values? (reply)

You could check that book of gun values to see if it is listed. I would look it up but since we moved almost everything I own is still in boxes.

I remember the Colteer and I also remember a Winchester automatic that was somewhat similar.

One of the things about nostalgic .22's is that many of them are dirt cheap now.

Are you sure you're not thinking of the Winchester 250? (reply)

It was a levergun in .22s,l,lr and .22WMR. It was part of Winchester's 150,170,190,250,270,290 family of rimfire rifles. the "50"s were leverguns, the "70"s pumps, and the "90"s semi-auto's.

yes; i get these fits of nostalgia from childhood....used (reply)

to spend countless hours reading gun mags, looking at ads, studying gun digests, etc. fantasizing about the items i would buy if i hadnt been dirt poor. and now periodically i grab these things when i can, and enjoy playing with them. many of the lever 22s are still cheap enough that assembling a collection of them is not too heavy a deal. this is one that i recall, but cant even find a picture of.

anyone remember a 'colt colteer ' 22 lever action rifle (reply)

Wasn't that the one that had a real clunky lever. The front of it looked normal, but the outside rear of it was square while the inside rear of it was rounded normally.

I remember looking at that one before I decided to pay more and get a Marlin Mountie.

you are likely right, but i have read referrences about (reply)

there being a colteer lever action....yes, the winchester 250 and 255 work pretty well, but are cheaply made compared to the later 9422 or the marlin 39 or winchesters pump guns, the 61 and 62.

overall i think there were about 15-20 different models of lever action 22lr and 22 mags made by the various manufacturers; some were not so great, but it makes for an interesting collection.

anyone remember a 'colt colteer ' 22 lever action rifle (reply)

1967 Shooter's Bible shows the Colteer autoloader, but not a lever gun. Also a "Stagecoach" version with a 16 1/2" barrel and a saddle ring complete with leather thong. Looks real funky on an autoloader, but the gun itself would be short, light (4 3/4 lbs.)and handy.

There is also a Winchester auto/slide/levergun .22 series of the same time period, that looks quite similar to the Colt guns. The lever was the Model 250, the pump was the Model 270, and the autoloader was the Model 290. The lever and pump versions were also made in .22 WMR as the Models 255 and 275.

My uncle had one of the .22LR leverguns. It was OK as I recall, but seemed kinda cheap and tacky compared to the older Winchesters.

anyone remember a 'colt colteer ' 22 lever action rifle

probably made in the 1960s or so. they made 22 lr semiautos and a single shot in 22 magnum, both called 'colteer' but i beleive there was also a lever gun. it was about the same time as mossbergs model 402 lever action 22 [ the palomino ]

any one remember or have old gun digests etc that might show such?

come on guys and wow me like you did with the remington lightweight funky colored model 572 22 pump rifles !!

these memory lane adventures are fun and tempting. i still would like the have the afore said remington with the blond wood and teal blue receiver and barrel.
