As much as I detest tank-top undershirts, they do have a use. Under a lightweight mesh-back fishing shirt with the tails out, when it gets really sticky in Tennessee summers.

Hot dog! Those are some fine peestols, Rob. (reply)

I've been shooting and packing my 1911s this winter, but they are GM spec and do require an extra tight pull o' the belt.

With smooth grips, Alessi and your holsters, I've never had any problems with irritation. But I did poke a hole the the back of a leather chair with the butt of my Kimber, once. Is that considered a giveaway?

carry: I generally wear a tee shirt and a very light over shirt even when it's 110 actually a bit cooler in the dry heat around here. Also smooth stocks for under the shirt carry if it is real humid and no tee shirt is bearable.

I've seen plenty that do provide some protection (reply)

Also good checkered wood grips will eat my skin too, and I know, I could change to other grips. For instance that Kimber even in your holster would eventually start grating on my skin. One time I really wanted a S&W 3913 for concealed carry but it has too many things sticking out the lefhand side so I had to pass.

I'm the kind that generally doesn't use a holster for concealed carry because it adds so much bulk. (I'm sorry to say that considering who I'm talking to, but I also do have a box full of holsters that I use for certain occasions.)

with the right attire, YES (reply)

If you don't wear a shirt between the gun and your skin such as in the summer, then it will eat you alive. In winter with more layers of clothing it works well.

I've always thought the Commander length was the best length 1911 period. A full size seems too long to me, and even the Kimber Pro series seems a tiny bit too short. The Commander is just right.

I think a SIG P239 or Glock 23 is a better summer carry gun, less stuff on the lefthand side to mess with your skin.

I'd vote for the .38 Super

Had the opportunity to pick up a.38 Super Commander some years back. Caveats: The previous owner had polished the frame until it looked liked it had been chromed and had super-melted the edges; the trigger pull was more than 9 pounds!

Passed on it ($375 but for a reason) but still like the concept.

Commander length 1911 is my favorite everyday carry gun. I think I might get a 38 super or 10mm next for a little flatter shooting when out in the woods.
