Collectors have driven the price up (reply)

Only model that S&W made that had two different model numbers for the exact same gun. Early ones ('55 & '56 production) were before model numbers, middle ones were model 36's, later ones were model 50's, last ones were model 36-1's. Just nine variations, according to "The Standard Catalog of S&W", were made over the years. 2" barrel round butt and 3" barrel square butt pre-model number, model 36's and model 50's. After S&W went to the 36-1 stamp, they did a run of 2" barrel square butt guns along with the regular 2" round butt and 3" square butt guns.

You should have seen the diamond grips on this thing. (reply)

Sharp and clean. I will probably go back tomorrow, and if it's there, I'll buy it. It has holster wear on all the high points, but it's rust free. I hate the tax rate where it is at though, over 10%.

I just can't justify climbing that high up the money ladder. I walked away from a 4 screw model 15 today for $300, but I may go back tomorrow for it. The grips were worth at least $100.

I have airfare to Fairbanks to buy soon you know. Will be up there for school conferences in October.

Make it work, Andrew (reply)

Sell or trade something, like the nice 3" Model 37 you picked up the other day, and get into the target sighted Chief's Special. That is unless you think it might be a modified gun. I think that is one rare Smith & Wesson.

Unusual J frame spotted Saturday.

One of my haunts has an early J frame .38, flat latch, round butt, snubbie, with adjustable sights. I've never seen a snub with adjustable sights, I have seen a couple 3 inch 36's with them though. At $775, I will be content to just look at it though.
