Excellent Smiths... (reply)

I really love my 5" 629 Classic, one of the best shooting handguns I've ever owned, and it is still comfortable to carry. In the winter I've even been known to use it for concealed carry without much problem. It has been used for some informal long range competition and more than holds it's own against Freedom Arms and high-zoot custom handguns. Yours sure sport some pretty impressive grips, much nicer looking than the Pachy Compacs mine wears.

Bob McNellis of El Paso Saddlery made me a very beautiful floral carved 1942 (tanker) holster for 5" N frame Smiths in which I carry both these Smith. I had a couple of more 5 inchers, but no longer have them.

It was a real shame when Bob passed away. He was a very strong Christian so it was a promotion for him, but the Texas western history fans lost a good friend. He was one of he most knowledable western hisory people I have ever known.

I especially like the 5" 629CL. I think it gives enough sight radius for accuracy, enough weight for recoil control, and is compact enough for easy carry. And you can use the same holster for both of those.

A 625 and 629, both great shooters. Both grips are by Herretts. The 625 has the Roper model and the 629 the Detective.
